Palletways

In July 2004, Phoenix backed James Wilson, a former senior executive of TNT, to acquire Palletways. The business is the UK's leading less-than-full-load palletised freight network with greater than 30% market share.

The business was founded in 1994, and has since grown rapidly both in the UK, and increasingly in Continental Europe. The business provides its customers with both cost and service advantages compared to other means of transporting small consignments of palletised freight.

The UK market for Palletways' services is growing at around 25% per annum and this is set to continue.

The strategy for Palletways is to continue to grow and develop the business in the UK, leveraging the high market growth, and at the same time further expand the business into Continental Europe. Palletways has, since Phoenix invested, begun operations in Benelux and in Spain, and has acquired a business in Italy.
