Nationwide Autocentres, now known as Halfords Autocentres, is a car servicing and mechanical repair business also providing MOT tests. Work typically focuses on brakes, tyres, exhausts, and other mechanical aspects of vehicles. Phoenix invested in Nationwide Autocentres in February 2006.

Our Partnership

We worked closely with a new management team comprising Duncan Wilkes, Billy Duffy and Andy Stevens to grow the business. During the investment period, priorities included a roll-out of new autocentres and growing the corporate fleet division, as well as launching new products and services and ensuring higher productivity and increased average spend. The company grew significantly, strengthening its position within a fragmented market. All aspects of the growth plan were achieved with revenues increasing by over 30% and profitability by 75%. In April 2010, Nationwide Autocentres was bought by Halfords PLC for £74 million.

"[Phoenix] was extremely supportive of all our expansion initiatives and after 4 years helped deliver a hugely successful sale of Nationwide for the benefit of all shareholders.”

Duncan Wilkes, former CEO Nationwide Autocentres
